In 2005 we created article directory tool that was helping people to build automatic article directory with self-growing content. At that time Google started its fight with duplicate content and we had a chance to test the dup content problem in all its stages: starting from the rumors "duplicate content will kill your sites traffic and you'll get de-indexed" and coming up to modern times when most of the forumers (with SEO experience and without it) tend to say "dup content is not a big danger, but still it will not bring you much success."
