High Ranking on Search Engines - Upper Case vs Lower Case Trick
Sunday, March 9th, 2008Fighting for High Ranking on Search Engines
For Your Keywords?
Do You Know the
Upper Case vs Lower Case Trick?
When fighting for your keywords make sure that you are not leaving extra traffic on the table. And you can be doing that, because Google treats keywords with upper case and lower case in a different way.
You can try it yourself, but we decided to provide an example for you and typed into Google (from the same IP address) two search phrases: "best apple ipod" and "Best Apple iPod". As you can see, these are the same search phrase which should produce the same results after submitting them for search in Google.
However if you try these phrases in Google, you will get a little different picture.
Please compare the 2 screenshots below.
Screenshot #1 is showing Google search results for "best apple ipod"

And screenshot # 2 is showing the results for "Best Apple iPod"

You can see that results 4 and 5 for seemingly the same phrase are different. If you dig deeper into this issue yourself, you will see that for most of the results the sites are the same, but not the same. And having #3 instead of #7 on the 1st page of Google can be a big difference when it comes to traffic volume.
What Tips Can We Grab
From this Experiment?
First of all, you can see that there is a difference between upper case and lower case. And not so many web site owners know about it. We have seen the rumor to start appearing only on a few specialized forums. This means you can beat many competitors in your niche if you focus on gathering backlinks with upper case words instead of lower case words.
Another important issue to consider - are your clients using it upper case in Google? This is serious, because you can spend much efforts on building backlinks with upper case anchor words, whereas no one would type it with upper case words into Google. The majority of people are "in a hurry" when using Google and will hardly spend extra seconds to switch from upper to lower case.
However, some still may do that. If you can spot the difference and know for sure that, let’s say, 2% of your potential surfers do that - well, you have an ace in the sleeve to get high ranking on search engines for this phrase.
